So I don't dabble often enough in the blogging department but I got a laugh at all of the comments left on my wonderful wife's last post about our recent cooking habits. Before I give the caveat to our last post, I must say that Jessica is an amazing cook. I don't thank her enough for it. Tonight we had that Tuscon soup and my job was to grate the onions because her eyes could not handle it. I also was given the pleasure of tearing 20 basil leaves into the mixture. I think I asked her after every other leaf if there was enough basil--I would make a horrible sous chef.
However, the photos that she posted were sample photos and not what was actually made. Credit goes to Google images, gotta love Google. We do enjoy having friends and family over for dinner even if we are rookies in the cooking department.
And yes, I am a fan of the Farmer's market. Jessica will come home from the store with heeps of food and I will ask how much it all was and every time I respond with a "REALLY"!
Oh yeah...I wanted to give a shout out to my sister McKenna for getting into BYU-Idaho! Congratulations. And to all of my other siblings, call me with any news and I will give you a shout out too.
Also, I am pretty unexcited for this year's Super Bowl. Arizona Cardinals v Pittsburgh Steelers...The Cards were 9-7 in the regular season and have played extremely well over the past four weeks. But really, Cardinals and Steelers. Everyone has picked Arizona to lose in the past four rounds of the playoffs. Pittsburgh is the favorite come Sunday, but I got the Cards winning this one...a nailbiter:23-21
Jessica is excited for the commercials.

i could really go for a personal chef sometimes
some thoughts on food...
i have kind of been horrible at making dinner lately. i know this semester started like two minutes ago, but i've been a busy beeeeeeee. here's how it's been:
nate walks in the door
jess: uhhh i ate some mac n cheese...so...there's some food in the fridge i think (right. milk, ketchup, and a block of cheese)
when all else fails, nate makes an egg sandwich. he's pro.
this weekend i sat down with my library of cookbooks and picked out recipes that i can actually make and that do not require exotic ingredients like...shallots. or dry white wine powder. seriously rachel ray? your surf 'n turf may take less than 30 minutes to make...but it would cost me $50! (i still love her though)
which brings me to the best buy of the week:
i dragged nate with me to my favorite farmer's market. and now he loves it too. why? good steak for $2.58. beautiful.
on le menu for this week: pappa al pomodoro tuscan soup and chicken with sweet corn potatoe saute to name a few. do i sound fancy?

secretly, we all wish we were sitting down to this every night, cracking it with a spoon. and if you aren't secretly wishing for this, you are missing out on bliss.

love those weekends

we had a gorgeous day at the canyons resort with my brothers
last night we played the game GREED at my brother geoff's house (m&b - remember when ryan jumped in the lake?). everyone agrees on a punishment that the loser will have to do.
guess who lost this time? ME!
the punishment was to eat a bowl of refried beans that had been sitting out for a couple of hours...you know, the crusty, dog food-looking, barf-smelling kind.
it was disgusting.
i am going to be the worst pregnant woman. even thinking about those beans almost makes me gag right now!

a new start, a new semester
in honor of the new year, clorox and i spent a good three hours together
making my apartment sparkle.
the semester is off to a great start.
i have saved biology until the very end for fear of utterly failing the class, but i am happy to announce that i honestly look forward to going.
and it's only the third class.
me and all the freshmen boys are having a grand old time in biology.
at this point in my academic career, i like every class that i'm in. fabulous!
i get to read dickens for homework. and think about the beauty of man with emerson. and design my own book. i think i might miss college next year.
nate is being his ridiculous self and taking way too many credits, but also likes his classes. between work, 21 credits, clubs, organizations, keeping up on kobe bryant's stats, entertaining nursery kids on sundays, and making our bed every morning because it makes me happy, nate has plenty of time to lounge around. not!
we are excited for this new year
there will be a lot of change for us...
graduation, a move to chicago, new jobs, and probably some curve balls thrown in for fun.
we're loving where we're at
and last but not least, some advice from my man ferris buhler:
"life moves fast--if you don't stop and look around once in awhile, you'll miss it"
happy 2009!

{vacation}
as previously mentioned, we went on a little vacation from the flurries of utah snow...to more flurries of seattle snow. we did, saw, slept, laughed, played, and ate...a lot!

let's be honest...watching her sleep was one of my favorite holiday activities

i want to be pregnant right now.
cheers to fabulous vacations and parents who spoil you rotten. thank you mom and dad!
now we're back to our cozy #4 apartment and the snow is coming down like crazy.
do they make fleece-lined jeans?
i want some.
