nj at ten months

i don't think it's possible to love this baby more.

she pulls herself to stand up on everything and is a fast crawler.

i love going to get her out of her crib.
she's usually standing up, just bubbling over with happiness, with a smile plastered on her face. who needs a puppy when you have a nora?

right now

i'm already feeling nostalgic about these student years. it's a whole different ball game being students with a family, and responsibilities, and all the pressure that comes with that territory. how did i ever think life was hard when my biggest question was whether to grab wendy's or burger king 99 cent nuggets at midnight to fuel my finals studying? that said, i love this time of life. the flexibility outweighs the stress of finding a job (right this second, at least). the opportunities outweigh the absence of a pay check. i'm constantly trying to simplify, and that happens naturally in student life.

we're listening to daft punk nonstop.

sage will wear her hair in approximately two styles: "one elsa braid" or "two anna braids"...or just down, wild and free. i have to come up with sneaky names to trick her into doing her hair, like "magical tinkerbell bun" or "under the sea mermaid hair".

high fives all around--nora sleeps through the night!

sage begs to do the dishes. unload, load, wash--she loves it all. is this one of those gratifying parent moments? it's pretty awesome.

i had some spare time before picking up sage from preschool last week, and with a sleeping baby in the backseat, i decided to just drive. i drove further and further north with no map, taking in the scenery. i love appreciating north carolina's beauty from a bugless, air-conditioned car ;) but really, the beauty! i drove through some posh neighborhoods off a country road and six deer pranced alongside me. i remembered how much i love the picturesque churches that dot the rolling green fields. i pulled over to take a photo and two people slowed down to ask if i needed help.

the world is good. and beautiful.

on a friday afternoon

the week has slipped past me with appointments and organizing and sickness and sleepless nights. it's not good to live life mourning the present, so i'm trying not to wince as nora grows up each day.
i'm struggling with the DO part of life. i have lots of ideas and plans, but executing them is another story. for now, i'll remember this moment on a friday afternoon.

the fading scabs on her nose are evidence from her face plant on our deck a few days ago.

be still my heart.
sage was conked out on the floor of her room, but i love her just as much.

hey ho orlando

my dad has an annual business meeting that fell in orlando this year, so we tagged along with my parents and sister for a little family time in hot, humid florida. the wizarding world of harry potter has been on my bucket list since it opened. we HAD to go! nate flew in for a few days too to drink butter beer and traipse around diagon alley and fulfill our nerdy wizarding dreams. i'd say it lives up to the hype. poor sage thought it was all pretty scary and covered her eyes often, even on our train ride aboard the hogwarts express.

first things first, the unimaginable happened on our quick flight to florida:

and my heart grew ten sizes as i watched my sleeping girls (and broke out a magazine!). like that diaper pillow? and has life resorted to being captured by a phone these days? yes.

i was giddy to be here. harry potter = my childhood.

we lunched on british fare at the leaky cauldron and sipped frozen butter beer. if it looks like we are wilting from heat and sweat, we were. it was one of those "90 degrees but feels like 103 degrees" days.

had to document our little nook on the hogwarts express before the dementors came.
we popped into suessland at universal studios to ride the carousel and meet the grinch. is it the eyes? the green fur? whatever it is, the grinch doesn't sit well with sage.
just as we were leaving the park, those blue skies turned to sheets of water and rolling thunder.
we got soaked!
while my dad was working, the girls spent the day at disneyworld's magic kingdom. i love that you can get over to the park by ferry boat.

the wait to visit anna and elsa from frozen happened to be much shorter than usual, so we hopped in line to make dreams come true. sage was thrilled! these iphone pictures are pretty bad, but at least the moment was captured?

we also spent lots of time chasing geckos on the sidewalks, laying in the sun, and setting a record for pool time--sage stayed in the water for four hours!

when grandma is around, i'm mostly invisible. she LOVES her grandma.

we got caught in an epic lightning storm one afternoon and perfected the jumping photo.
we walked around the grounds of the gorgeous orlando temple
and spent an afternoon at gatorland.
the red neck watching and humongous gators were equally awesome.

a meal at cracker barrel called for a game of checkers in rocking chairs

sage was wide-eyed at rain forest cafe. i'd never been before either, but sage could hardly eat because she was so enraptured with the animals.

such a fantastic trip! i lucked out with those cool parents of mine.
