i finished my last day of teaching today, and my two year commitment to teach for america. as i drove to work this morning, it felt pretty bittersweet. but as i half-waddled to my car at six p.m., it was 99% sweet. i wish i could post pictures of the beautiful faces i got to teach. instead, you get a mediocre shot of my classroom in bloom from my point-and-shoot that is taped together to still work.

some of the best things i heard from preschoolers in my two years:
(feeling hairs on my leg) "why are there spikes on your leg?"
"booty, booty, booty, booty, i shake mah bah bah bah booty! i mean, boots...in the sea...i love you ms. lawler"
"mannn that boy's gotta get a whoopin!"
"the cops will run after you! like me when i was little..."
"but ma grandmotha told me to punch 'em back. i gots to"
"woah, it looks like you swallowed a basketball! how did it taste?"
"what's crack-a-lackin!?"
i learned so much from my experiences teaching and saw some beautiful, frustrating, heartbreaking, amazing, and awful things. hopefully, i will be a better parent for it.
i feel like i've been balancing all these balls in the air, just hanging on before i dropped something. slowly, i am getting to check major things off my life/get ready for big changes list. i'm really excited to have a little time before baby girl to relax and prepare.

wahoo! that is great news! time to relax and wait for baby to arrive!

Did you know that sometimes I come and check out your blog? It's true. And with the school year coming to a close, I just had to come back knowing you would have one final post about your year (& maybe you'll have more). I remember walking away on the last day of my teaching career. I was a mess! (on the inside of course. I had to act calm and cool). Those kids are going to miss you and you'll probably miss them too (especially on days when your still in your pjs at 2pm and can't think of a single productive thing you've done all day). Leaving teaching to care for your own little baby is just about the best reason to leave, however.
