when she heard we were headed to nashville, our sweet friend offered for all eight of us to stay at her parents' home there. they were completely generous and gracious, and i liked exploring their little suburb on the skirts of nashville. i am not a country music fan at all, but it was kind of fun to see where carrie underwood and a bunch of other musicians live.
after the big duke vs. unc basketball game, we took off west and drove eight straight hours to tennessee. again, the cold weather followed us and tweaked our plans of spending the day walking around the city.
we hit a few major stops downtown: hatch show print inside the country music hall of fame, ernest tubb record shop, ryman auditorium, the parthenon, and a browse through antique archaeology. we had so many food recommendations that made for the best meals in nash, like pancake pantry, las paletas, puckett's, loveless cafe, and sloco. of all the southern food we've tasted in the last month, loveless cafe won for melt-in-your-mouth biscuits.
on our last day, we drove out to opryland to tour the grand ole opry. i had no idea what a big deal that place is, and i was intrigued by its history. sneaky sage was not loving the tour, so nate took her on a little walk. she ducked under the ropes and played a few keys of an old piano in a famous dressing room before we could stop her.

we froze on our windy walk down broadway.
a white swagger wagon for this part of the roadtrip. do i dare admit that i'm maybe/possibly converted to vans? convenience goes a long way on a road trip with four kids.
blurry since i had a baby in my arms, but this is the chef behind sloco. we chatted with him for awhile, and then he brought us snickerdoodles fresh from his oven (!!!!). we highly recommend the vegan tomato soup.
annnnnd let's get a close up of this trio.
sage didn't get the memo and opted for the air oboe, and dane accidentally let go of his air guitar.
we liked you, nashville.
