onward and upward

you know it's summer when we make caprese every night. his (tomatoes) and hers (nectarines).

i was feeling really good about san francisco last week. i raved about it to my family, to my girl friends. then, the next day, i was harassed (accosted? beyond scared?) by a homeless woman. i turned a corner on an empty street and she got up in my face with a stream of cussing and yelling out of nowhere. she wouldn't leave me alone even when i turned around, so i ran with my kids to a more public street. lest i thought this place was all ocean views and gourmet food, it's not.

but, onward and upward! we popped into the fortune cookie factory in chinatown and stopped for dim sum (oh how i miss singapore's dim sum!). we drove past the mrs. doubtfire house and up and down the hills of pacific heights just for fun. we met nate after work to walk down to fisherman's wharf for boudin clam chowder in a bread bowl and for sage to see the sea lions. we hit a venezuelan music performance and checked another playground off the list, too. since we had to drop off nate for an early meeting one morning, we ventured up twin peaks for a stunning view of the bay, accompanied by fresh pain au chocolat. we also went with new friends to the california academy of sciences, and i was impressed.

last weekend began with our first giants game. we tagged along to rodney's stanford mba graduation festivities with his whole family and some of our dear friends. couldn't ask for a more fun crowd! we're realizing what an easy, portable baby sage was...because nora is not. she was done at the seventh inning, but friday night was fireworks night and there was no way we weren't staying for the fireworks! YOLO. oh wait, is that one done now? anyway, sage was so, so good at the game. she clapped wildly when the crowd did, and sat in awe of the fireworks. she skipped home two blocks with me at midnight still happily humming take me out to the ball game. nate's thrilled about this new love (and stamina!) for baseball.

i'm wondering when i can hire lincoln and donovan to babysit nora. they were so sweet to her!
we drove to the east bay to visit our friends and see their new home. lovely!

dinner at the google plex with dad. he's loving his internship so far.

all things considered, the bay is living up to the hype.
