i don't have my computer or camera cord, so this will be the summer of iphone photos. i want to remember all these days in the city. i feel really grateful that we basically get to be on vacation while nate works hard as an intern. the pressure's always on to get a permanent job offer, and that can't be easy for him. i wasn't sure about the neighborhood we landed in, but it's turned out to be golden. nate walks fifteen minutes to work every day, and we are so close to the water.
i am sold, completely, on this fantastic city...except that public transportation is the worst of any big city we've visited or lived in. you can't really get to everything easily just by public transit, and forgettaboutit with a hefty double stroller. we rented a car over the weekend for a few errands and decided to keep it a little longer. i've been exploring the mission and the castro with my girls the past few days. we've been tasting our way through these neighborhoods and i've had to stop so many times for those "is this for real?!" moments when the sun is shining, the view is incredible, the perfect victorian houses are picturesque, and i'm sharing a tartine pastry with my darling sidekick.
sage turns three this week, and this age is either hilarious and sweet or stubborn and frustrating. more of the sweet though. each time we come home from an adventure, she throws her arms around my neck and exclaims, "mom, thank you so much for our fun walk!" whether we walked a lot or a little, i never get sick of this girl's enthusiasm for exploring.
another benefit of living in the tech hub are the services i had no idea existed. google shopping express is my new best friend, even though it is scarily easy to order things. we needed crayons this afternoon and at six p.m. they showed up on my doorstep. lyft, uber, and sidecar are so convenient too. our last lyft driver gave us all his asian food recs and had fruit snacks for sage waiting in the car.
sage is our music fiend, and i've just introduced her to the broadway songs of annie. she belted out, "'stead a treated, we get tricked! 'stead a kisses, we get kicked!" in the bath tonight. hmmm. my point is, in the words of annie, i think i'm gonna like it here. i don't feel like we have enough weekends to do this city justice!
we met durham friends at the creativity museum, complete with a carousel ride at the end.
sage thinks it's novel to push nora around in this $11.99 stroller (thanks, mom!). i love having a break.
priorities: we stopped for ricanelas (cinnamon with snickerdoodle...i know.) ice cream at bi-rite, then shared a spiffy tiffy sandwich from ike's place on these church steps.
dutifully waiting for our sandwich at tartine, where the banana cream tarte is hands down one of the best pastries i've tasted to date.
we found the seward street concrete slides.
we picnicked and collected duck feathers at the palace of fine arts.
it gets collllld at night, so we bundle up the girls and walk to the giants stadium. there's a public viewing nook--perfect for watching an inning, or half an inning. or just a pitch.
an ethereal moment in the morning light in the sun room of our loft. sage insists on reading TO me and nora.
Looks like you guys are having a great time!! Love that snap of Sage licking her ice cream cone. : ) And Nora...oh my goodness, she's getting so big! Miss you guys!
